If Open Adoption were one of many choices offered to you, and you had an equal chance of being matched if you decided on a Traditional Closed Adoption with basic non-identifying history and health information, what would you prefer?

I think some open adoptions are fabulous. Ours is forced and awful so I hate it. If I ever adopt again I will be very guarded.

Hey, you know me........give me details, give us health info and extended family names if you want.....but no visits or continued contact. And if you HAVE to do continued contact of any sort, make it limited: An annual letter/update for the first three years, period. I get a biological wanting to know if things are working out alright; but we adopted to have a family...not adopt a biological person as well.

And FWIW, most of the open adoptions I know of have not worked out well.........

Sincerely,

Linny

I think that posting anonymously has allowed people to really express their feelings. Thanks
to all who have participated in this poll! It will go on for a few more days.

C'mon and vote! Nobody will know it's you unless you post something
on the thread.

Eight people took the poll. Six chose Closed Adoption with non-identifying med and fam history when offered an equal chance to adopt. That's 75%.

Even more interesting is the fact that this thread has been viewed SIXTY-ONE times! I realize some have clicked on it more than once (like me)....but that's a lot of folks.

Are we trying to 'start something' here? Nope. Just showing that deep inside, maybe a lot of people really prefer to have closed adoptions???? Hmmmm......I just joined another adoption support group that's gone haywire toward the idea 'fully open adoptions are best for the children'?
Really?

Kead...please post a link to the survey you posted some time ago related the fact that fully open adoptions aren't always the best option---as viewed by the adoptees.....wasn't there something along that line some time ago?

Sincerely,

Linny
