Your Adoption Connection: Licensed - waiting on match
My wife and I have been on the adoption path for nearly 6 years. We are from the UK originally and were approved to adopt there. It is a very similar process to the US but the Home Study is much more in depth and takes c. 3 months to complete. We were approved to adopt but after a year there was no suitable match and then we moved overseas for my work. We moved to the US nearly 2-1/2 years ago and plan to settle here for the foreseable future so we gained permanent residency and then started down the road of adoption approval. We completed PRIDE training last summer and then completed the Home Study. We got our license the day after Thanksgiving 2012. Since then we have been waiting for a match.

We have a birth daughter (9) and are looking for a younger sibling between 4 and 8 yrs old with no preference on gender, race, etc. It will be a domestic adoption - either straight adoption or legal risk.

I"m sorry you've had to wait so long to come to this point; but truly, waiting since Thanksgiving since receiving your license is still not too awfully long to wait in the foster care system. DO be very careful when considering a placement.

What agency are you currently working with? Do they also conduct private adoptions as well?

Sincerely,

Linny

Thank you for the response.

To answer your questions we are with Spaulding for Children. They only deal with cases from DFPS and I do not believe they handle private cases.
