Your Adoption Connection: We adopted our son in 2006.
Hi everyone!! I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jenn and my husband and I adopted our son through domestic adoption in 2006. We just recently started the adoption process in November to adopt another child. We decided to use the same agency that we used for my son's adoption, but after signing up with them in November, we were just informed they were closing. So, we are in the process of finding a new agency to work with. Just wanted to stop in and say hi. :hi

Hi Jenn!
Welcome to Forever Parents and it's nice to meet you!!!!! :nod

Dh and I adopted one of our children in 2006 too. He was our fifth baby.....and we went on to adopt one-----more-----time in 2009. What type of situation are you looking for? Healthy white baby, multi-ethnic, special needs, older child?
If you want to pm me or write about it here, let us know where you live and some of us might be able to give suggestions as to what agencies we'd recommend.
We'll be glad to help!

Sincerely,

Linny

Hi Linny, :smile

Wow, you are so blessed to have 6 children! That is awesome. :) Thank you for the nice welcome.

We live in Texas, and are interested in adopting an African American, healthy, newborn/infant. We have been in contact with a couple of different agencies, but are finding the whole process of moving all of our documents to a new agency, kind of stressful. We were homestudy approved in December 2012, but some agencies we have found will not accept our homestudy, because it was not performed by their agency. And the ones that are willing to use our homestudy, have fees that are not in our budget. :(

The saddest part is that we built such a trust in the agency we were using. We had adopted our son from the same agency, and for them to close so abruptly (and after we had already invested money with them) was a huge disappointment. So, unfortunately I have "trust" issues when it comes to finding a new agency.

I would love to hear any suggestions for agencies. It's always so nice to hear from others who may have used a certain agency. :smile

Ugh, another adoption hoop to go through! Will they share your homestudy so maybe it could transfer to a new agency?

Best of luck!

Don't know what part of TX you're in, but if you're close enough (and even if you're not, they'll work with you).....Adoption Covenant out of Lubbock? I've dealt with several of their people while working with Adopt America. Very nice; and their fees weren't too bad (though most fees are horrible anymore).

They will probably especially want to talk with you being that you're wanting a Black American baby. (This was our choice as well.)

Found this article about one TX agency closing abruptly......was this your agency? If so, notice that Adoption Covenant has agreed to lower their fees---at least in one case.

There's also Adoption Advisory out of Dallas, TX.

HTH...

Sincerely,

Linny
